Organized by the Banc d'Arguin National Park, the main objective of this second meeting was the results of the module on the " evaluation of the role of the protected coastal and marine areas as a medium of conservation and social-economic development " with its five parts: the bibliographical analysis, the history of the populations and the identity of the resident population, the traditional culture of the resident population, the evaluation of the state of exploitation and the use of renewable resources, and the bio-ecological contribution to the coastal and marine environment. Following these statements of results, the consortium noted the fragmentary or even non-existent character of the available data, most often non-representative (with some exceptions), and already old, and made the choice of carrying out investigations during one year, which were set up in the form of an investigation with heavy sampling, and a series of village monographs.
The second part of the meeting was thus devoted to the collective elaboration of a trans-module multidisciplinary investigation, and more particularly to the plan and protocol of sampling which first necessitated the definition of the investigation units and the supports for data-collecting, and then the choice of the control methods and the representativeness of the data.
